Brazilian Hair Straightening
What’s the difference between Brazilian and Japanese Hair Straightening?
The Japanese Hair Straightening method uses a chemical formula which has been known to cause extensive damage to the hair. The Brazilian method is much healthier on the hair and unlike the Japanese method it can be done on most types of hair, including chemically treated hair.
Can the treatment be done if I’ve previously done Japanese Hair Straightening or relaxed hair?
Yes. You can do the treatment over any previously treated hair.
Is it safe to color process and highlight your hair?
Yes. You can color, highlight and apply this treatment all in one day.
How often does the treatment need to be done?
This treatment will stay in virgin hair for 2 months, any other type of hair for 3-4 months. The treatment does work better over colored or chemically treated hair.
Will it leave my hair pin straight?
No. It will leave your hair with natural movement and volume.
Can I wash my hair or go into the pool or ocean after the treatment?
Yes, but only 4 days after doing the treatment.
Can I get this treatment if I am pregnant or nursing?
Pregnant or nursing woman cannot get this treatment done.
Spa Treatments
Will my face be red after my treatment?
In most cases the face will have a pink glow upon completion of your facial. This should subside after a few hours.
What should I wear to my spa appointment?
You can wear whatever you feel is comfortable. Robes are provided upon arrival. As always you can undress to your comfort level.
Will I be nude during my massage treatment?
Your comfort is our main focus. Upon booking we ask if you have a gender preference for your service. We want you to get the most out of your service, therefore we need for you to remove any excess jewelry and clothing so that the focus is soley on your body. During the service you are nude under towels That are only removed when that portion of your body is the focus of the massage. Please feel free to communicate to our professionals of any discomfort or preferences that you may have.

Laser Hair Removal
Is Laser Hair Removal painful?
There is minimal discomfort during treatments however certain areas are more sensitive than others. A topical anesthetic is available for those who cannot tolerate the tingling or stinging sensation during treatment. Discomfort similar to a mild sunburn may be noted over the first 24 hours.
How many treatments are required?
The laser works by disrupting hairs that are in the active phase of growth at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter the growth phase at different times, additional treatments will be necessary to disable all hair follicles in a given area. Treatments are usually given at intervals of approximately 4-6 weeks, or whenever new hair growth is first noticed. Many patients are completely satisfied with their results after only a couple of treatments, while others will need four or five treatments for maximum removal of all hair. Treatment times vary from a few minutes for areas such as the chin and neck to a few hours for extensive areas of the legs, back and chest.
What happens after treatment?
Within several minutes, the treated area may become pink and a little puffy. This reaction subsides quickly and within a day or so the areas return to normal. However, you should not plan any important social engagements during the first several days after your treatment, especially if the treated areas are on the face.
Around 3-10 days after treatment you may experience what seems to be hairs re-growing. Most of these hairs, however, are dead, treated hairs that are being shed and are not regrowing. In between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hairs because this decreases the ability of the laser to destroy actively growing hairs.
Who are the best candidates for laser hair removal??
Since light energy is absorbed by the pigment melanin, which then is transformed into heat energy to disable the follicle, those individuals with course dark hair, and light skin color respond most optimally. In those people with darker skin color, the Diode Laser Hair Removal System (the one we will use at Canela) uses Super Long-Pulse technology. This technology delivers a pulse of laser energy to the skin over a longer period of time than other hair removal lasers. This longer delivery time (pulse width) eliminates the absorption of laser energy into darker skin and yet still disables the hair follicle. Super long-pulse technology is so effective, it permits the treatment of ALL skin colors types (1-6), even TANNED skin.
How much does it cost?
During your initial consultation the areas to be treated will be determined and a fee quote per treatment session will be given to you. The fee for re-treatment sessions at one to two month intervals may be the same or less than the initial treatment depending on the extent of follow-up treatment needed.
Our goal is to provide safe, effective and affordable laser treatments for patients wishing to avail themselves of this service.
How does laser hair removal differ from electrolysis?
The main difference between this technology and the traditional method known as electrolysis, is that lasers can treat multiple hair follicles at one time, no longer requiring the need to identify and probe each individual hair follicle, as is done with electrolysis.
As anyone who has had electrolysis can attest, electrolysis can be exceedingly painful. It is costly, slow, and, importantly, can cause permanent scarring. Electrolysis works by the use of electrical current, delivered through a small needle or electrode, which is passed through the skin and, hopefully, into the hair bulb beneath the surface of the skin. There are several problems, which become obvious once this mechanism is considered. Firstly, the electrical current can damage normal skin around the hair follicle resulting in scarring. Secondly, since it is impossible to see the hair follicle, which is being treated, the practitioner cannot be certain that the electrical current is being placed in exactly the right place. Skilled electrolygist's can get some excellent results, and, until recently, patients had no other effective alternative.
Laser hair removal is the most practical, least painful, most efficient, probably least expensive professional method available to remove unwanted hair

What influence does skin color have on laser hair removal?
Light skin makes laser hair removal easier to perform. Fewer treatments are required, and better, faster results are obtained. People with darker skin can be treated, but results are slower, more sessions are required, and greater expertise is required on the part of the laser center. Laser hair removal must be individualized for each patient.
What influence does hair color have on laser hair removal?
Dark hair absorbs more laser energy and is easier to treat. Coarse dark hair responds the best to laser treatment. Light hair is more difficult to treat. Blonde or red hair is very difficult to treat. Multiple treatment sessions are required, and results are variable. Blonde or red hair usually contains pheomelanin, which absorbs laser energy less avidly than the eumelanin pigment that is present in black or brown hair.
